What is a doula?
The word doula comes from the Greek meaning “woman’s servant.” A doula is someone who is trained to support a woman through pregnancy, childbirth and just after the baby is born. I provide informational, emotional and physical support to the family in this precious adventure.
A note to dads… I just want to state that my goal is to support both of you and not to overstep or overcrowd. I will work toward open communication to ensure that both of your experiences are everything they can be.
Why hire a doula?
Having a doula at your birth has been found to:
- Shorten labors and have fewer complications
- Produce greater satisfaction about the childbirth experience
- Reduce cesarean section and post partum depression
- Have a positive effect on the baby with shorter hospital stays and an easier time breastfeeding.
